Billed as having defeated Mantell (The Austin American, Austin, TX, 31-06-07) and recognized as the wrestling champion by the National Boxing Association (The Austin American, 31-06-11); recognition withdrawn around 32-10 in San Antonio, TX where a tournament to determine new champion is held; several newspapers specifically indicate that Joe is never officially recognized by the NWA.

Defeats Les Tribble for the East Texas version of the world title and is billed as NWA champion in Oklahoma in 33-12.

Billy Thom 1934-04-26 Columbus, OH
Defeats Wildcat McCann by countout and is recognized by both National Wrestling Association and Midwest Wrestling Association; has claimed the title earlier in the year after defeating Joe Parelli; loses to Everett Rattan on 34-06-14 in Cincinnati, OH but continues to be recognized by the NWA; defeats Rattan on 34-08-08 in Columbus, OH; wrestles title claimant George Gabel to a draw on 35-12-20 in Hamilton, OH; still recognized as the champion at the annual NWA convention on 40-09-09; no longer mentioned at the annual NWA convention on 41-09-10 (Evening Post, Charleston, SC, 41-09-10).
