This was a one shot deal with the Bolos coming in as champions to
establish the title.Art Nelson had introduced this type of match to the
Mid-Atlantic,he and his opponent taping their fists and going until someone
was down for the ten count.Yes these matches were sometimes billed as
taped fist matches.
About eight weeks after Johnny Weaver and Art Nelson won the Brass
Knuckles Trophy, they won the Atlantic Coast Tag belts on Aug.31,1972
in Greensboro from Missouri Mauler and Brute Bernard.
Several people were involved in the research we did on the Atlantic
Coast Tag Team Title for our site Wrestling Memories.Collectively we
have all the clippings for the house show changes. The changes that took
place on tv came from comparing notes, memories and a process of
elimination using clippings showing who was where and when.It may
not be perfect but we always welcome any info that is better than what
we have.If we are wrong on any of the title changes we will gladly
make corrections. We want any title history we are involved in to be as
accurate as possible.
Johnny Weaver and Art Nelson defended both tag titles until they lost
the Atlantic Coast belts to the Andersons on March 3,1973 in Winston-
Salem.I was lucky enough to see that match. They lost the Brass Knucks
title to the Royal Kangaroos in Greensboro,NC on June 7,1973.
Research turned up a previous 1 week ACTT reign for the Anderson's in
Nov.1972 in Charlotte.I did not remember this title switch and am not
sure it was ever recognized on tv.We now realize that some of the
shorter title reigns were never mentioned concerning this and other JCP
titles. It seems only the fans who witnessed them knew about them until
archive research turned them up.
The Brass Knuckles sort of faded away by the end of 1973.As far as I
know the Royal Kangaroos were still the champions when they left JCP.
