Interesting subsite. I wonder if they're going to expand and make an actual title history site (like they tried to do 3-4 years ago) or if this is just a set-up for the upcoming WWE Intercontinental Title History DVD?

I already made mention of the site in the WWF titlke histories forum about what they put under Patterson, but I think it's overdue, they need to acknowledge their history...

I've been reading it too the past couple days. I'm onto the WWE-era now. It's interesting but I think we need Dan to read it and point out any 'alterations to history' because I have a feeling they're in there, cough! cough! Brazil! cough! cough! ;)

No, I'm not lying *straight face* Pat Patterson defeated Ted DiBiase for the newly-created WWE North American Championship. Patterson then went to *still trying to keep a straight face* Rio De Janeiro in September 1979, where he defended the title in a tournament. He then unified his title with the *starting to break... :) * South American Championship, thus becoming the first-ever Intercontinental Champion. :D :D *breaking up laughing saying 'they bought it!'*

The Rio De Janeiro location is used all the time. It's what they used for "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers WWWF title win.

Several years ago on WWF Magazine, it was listed that Patterson won the tournament in Rio by defeating Inoki in the final.

Maybe I should list Inoki as a former South American champion on my website. ;)

:D That was a good one! I told you guys Hisa was funny... ;)

That's strange that WWE the magazine would say that he beat Inoki. Have these two ever wrestled each other? Another thing I want to know is why they would go with "Intercontinental" when they could have used the North American title. I would like to know the history there. And, MARTY, thanks, I knew.

Read the following:

Buddy Rogers 25/01/1963
*Awarded by promoters breaking with the NWA, allegedly because they didn’t recognise Buddy’s one-fall loss of the NWA World Heavyweight Title to Lou Thesz on 24/01/1963 in Toronto, ON. On 25/01/1963 Vince McMahon announced the creation of the WWWF. In some accounts Buddy allegedly defeated Antonio Rocca in a fictitious tournament final in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the title. In fact, Joe ‘Toots’ Mondt wanted to use Bobo Brazil’s name to say that Buddy beat him for the title in the tournament final. Brazil refused to allow his name to be used so Mondt used Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as a subliminal insult to Brazil for his lack of co-operation.

This was established within the truths of the Rogers Thread on Kayfabe.

It was when WCW had a deal with New Japan. Maybe that's why.

Quick note: The WWE Championship section of the site is now up. Just follow the appropriate link:

Some notes:
- Inoki's reign gets ignored. Again.
- Thanks to the Marvel trademark controversy, history is rewritten again as, in fact, Iron Sheik was beaten in 1984 by Hollywood Hogan.
- Another trademark I might not be aware of: I think Steve Austin owns the rights to his name "Steve Austin". That's why if you look at his reigns, all you see is "Stone Cold" as opposed to "Stone Cold Steve Austin".
