Lucha questions

Postby Jason on Wed May 28, 2003 12:35 am

I don't know much about lucha, but I was wondering a) what's the difference (if any) between EMLL and CMLL, and B) I was looking for some recommendations for CMLL tapes to check out.

EMLL is the promotion, CMLL the title governing body. Just like New Japan and IWGP, or NOAH and GHC.

I always wondered why New Japan called their title the IWGP Heavyweight Title.

Thanks for the info. Why then, do I sometimes see the fed referred to as CMLL? Nobody would ever refer to New Japan as IWGP.

Also, still looking for more info about good tapes to check out and also what time/date do they air on Galavision?

Probably because CMLL is an organization name while IWGP and GHC are just championship names. CMLL to EMLL is, let's say, similar to what WWF was to Titan Sports.

I sometimes watch Lucha Libre on Galavision. It starts at around 11 for me. It has CMLL first the AAA.

Lucha de Vuelta comes on Saturdays from 1pm to 3:30pm CDT and Lucha Libre comes on Sundays at the same time. You can read reviews by Victor Martinez at Dave Meltzer's website if you miss it on Sunday and watch it the next Saturday it's a rebroadcast show. If you get a chance buy AAA's "When Worlds Collide" PPV. It was filmed in L.A. in 1994 it's all good to excellent and it has a lot of guys that you will probably be familiar with- Chris Benoit, Eddy Guerrero, 2 Cold Scorpio, Rey Misterio Jr, and Psicosis.

Yeah, I have When Worlds Collide and a few random tv shows. I'm more interested in seeing more recent stuff with Shocker, Bucanero, Super Crazy, etc.

Thanks to all who responded. I finally got a chance to see the replay of the 5/25/03 Galavision show, and it didn't do much for me. It's very possible that I just don't understand lucha very well, but the falls were so fast and had so little drama. The highspots were fine, but that's about all there was that kept me moderately interested. Am I missing something?

We must be on the same Time zone, because it comes on here for me at that same time too, no?
