TNA dropping the NWA titles?

from tnawrestlingnews.com:

Mike Johnson is reporting that TNA will be losing the rights to the NWA name and the NWA titles in the next several months. TNA has plans to introduce their own set of World and Tag Team titles very soon. One scenario being discussed would see Samoa Joe win the NWA title and then toss it down saying he's the TNA champion instead much like Shane Douglas did in ECW back in 1995. ...

Heywood Allen, just a figurehead

As you see on my website, Heywood Allen was listed by a Waterloo paper as the president for the pre-1948 National Wrestling Alliance.

However, Tim Hornbaker, whose NWA book has recently been released, reported to me yesterday that he couldn't find any connection between Pinkie George's Iowa-based "National Wrestling Alliance" and Heywood Allen, a Louisville promoter from 1940s.

Instead, Allen mainly booked the guys from Tom Packs of St. Louis including National Wrestling Association champions ...

Women's World Tag Team Title

Thanks to ZEKE, I was able to find the photo of the Moolah-controlled women's world tag team title belt on the great CWF Archives web site.

As I remembered, the belt says "NWA" on the top. While it was not controlled by NWA board but was controlled by Moolah and defended mainly on WWWF/WWF cards, I guess it's now safe to say that it was an "NWA" title (just like many other company titles that ...

John Layfield beat Kevin Von Erich for what title?

In an interview here on WWE.com John "Bradshaw" Layfield said that he beat Kevin Von Erich for the NWA World Heavyweight title. That can't be. I don't ever remember Bradshaw getting the NWA title. So what title did he beat him for?

NWA-early 50s-whatever became of...

In the early 50s Verne Gagne wrestled Danny Savich for the NWA championship in the midwest. Gagne won, but what-
ever became of Savich. He wrestled some big names such
as Bobo Brazil, and he had matches on the Texas circuit. I would appreiate any information. Thank you.

Early fan, Harold

What is TNA's relationship with NWA?

Somebody told me that they split a while ago and that the NWA in NWA:TNA stands for something like New Wrestling Alternative. I didn't believe him, but I'm curious now.

NWA/WWF Title Arrangement

Could someone explain - in detail - how the arrangement between WWF and NWA (if there was one) which allowed the WWF to use the NWA World Tag Team and Nth American Heavyweight titles in 1998.

And is it true that NWA World's Champion Dan Severn defended the belt in the WWF in 1998 when he was champ from 95-99. If so, did he have the belt with him and how did it come about. ...
